Dr. Kramer is a veterinarian of all creatures, specializing in two unique fields: high-volume spay & neuter surgery for cats and exotic animal medicine. He LOVES his work. It shows in his dedication to helping the animals; educating himself in new areas of veterinary medicine; and educating both veterinary students and the public in the care of both domestic and exotic companion animals.

Originally a New Yorker, Marc graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Thereafter, he completed a one-year avian and exotic internship at the Ontario Veterinary College, and since then has been practicing as a vet in Miami, Florida. He has written several veterinary articles on birds, reptiles, and exotic companion mammals, and has lectured both nationally and internationally on exotic pet topics. For the last ten years, he has been the moderator and webmaster for the ExoticDVM Online Forum, a veterinary discussion group with over 1500 veterinarian participants from around the world.

When Marc took a sabbatical from his practice at Avian and Exotic Animal Medical Center in 2008, he had quite an agenda lined up. Early that year, Marc volunteered his time to travel to Bolivia to deliver donated veterinary supplies to Inti Wara Yassi, a remote wildlife refuge in desperate need of equipment and training. While there, he shared medical advice with the refuge veterinarians and taught several hands-on training sessions, demonstrating how to safely tranquilize an animal with a blowgun, and performing basic medical and surgical care for endangered wildlife species. Later, he traveled to Grenada to teach a course on exotic animal medicine to vet students at St. George’s University. Starting in June and for the next eight months, he drove his 1978 Volkswagen Camper Bus all the way from Florida to Alaska and back, stopping along the way to assist in vaccinating cougars in Florida, visiting with exotic veterinary colleagues across the country, and volunteering with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Alaska to conduct necropsies on a large number of sea otters when an outbreak of distemper virus had occurred.

After almost a year of travel, Marc returned to Miami in February 2009 to take on the huge task of overseeing veterinary operations on the Miami Meow Mobile, a spay & neuter mobile clinic owned by The Cat Network. During 2009, he spayed and neutered 1600 cats on the Meow Mobile, along with another 1500 dogs and cats working as a relief vet at the Humane Society of Greater Miami and Miami-Dade Animal Services. During that same year, Marc served as a relief exotic veterinarian for a month at a busy practice in Indianapolis, returned to Grenada’s veterinary school twice to teach a small exotic mammal and reptile course, and pioneered a new month-long small exotic mammal and primate course at The University of the West Indies in Trinidad.

While working on the Meow Mobile, Marc always keeps the well-being of the cats at the forefront, and still finds time to answer the myriad of questions posed by cat owners and stray cat trappers. He cares for the stray cats as though they were someone’s beloved pet, addressing medical issues beyond the sterilization surgery. In addition to heading up the Meow Mobile, he is still on call at an exotic animal veterinary hospital, and flies into the clinic late at night when no other emergency clinic in all of Miami-Dade will handle after-hours exotics calls.

His love for the animals and his devotion to veterinary medicine and care of these animals is inspiring. He seems to be tireless and is always willing to dispense medical advice as needed. He certainly is an Animal Hero!
